Why is BoostMyMusicCareer.com necessary?
The music industry is in great transition right now. Technology has opened up a whole new world of choices to the public in accessing music. Though the days of cd’s are still with us, the age of the download is upon us and growing at a staggering rate. Artists are still trying to sign record deals and obtain radio airplay but the internet has opened up the entire world as the potential audience for the artist and the artist can go straight to that audience via the artist’s website, myspace, twitter ,facebook, blogs, etc…
However, one thing in the music business that hasn’t changed at the same rate as music’s accessibility is the cost to the artist. If the artist has a record deal much of the costs, at least the recording costs, are fronted by the label and the artist pays that back through record sales first before the artist sees any profit for himself. This is what is known as a recoupable expense by the record label. The record label may or may not be involved in other areas of the artists’ career such as touring and again, any upfront money spent by the label is first recouped by the label before the artist or act sees anything. Though recoupment costs may be reduced if the artist does not have a record label, it then means those large upfront costs for recording as well as all of the other needs related to the artists’ career fall on the artist with upfront being the kicker.
Those career needs might include recording, image consulting and developing, photo shoots, pressing and packaging the cd, voice consultation and lessons, wardrobe, all online site(s) costs and updates i.e.…web, myspace, facebook, twitter, hiring of band for shows, sound and lighting equipment, transportation costs, insurance, legal fees, and living expenses while growing the music income. It quickly adds up and becomes cost prohibitive for 99.9% of up and coming artists. Isn’t it a shame that it takes so much money to break and maintain a music career. Imagine all of the incredible talent that NEVER GETS HEARD because of this stark reality. It’s been said that there are and will always be many more talented singers/artists that we’ll never know than those that we do know.
Having the ability to finance one’s own career gives the artist options. One is that it can give the artist leverage in negotiating a contract with Record label(s) because the artist is not counting on the label for every penny and it can give the artist more creative control over their career. Perhaps the biggest advantage that exists however is if the artist does not sign with a major label or recognized independent label and decides to go it alone. In this case, and in today’s musical climate and with the internet, the artist can realistically make it happen totally independent and have total control over his career.
With all of the recent breaks in my career, BoostMyMusicCareer.com was created to enable me to have these options whichever route I decide to go. Thank you again for being a part of it and should you or anyone you know be interested in a sponsorship or investment opportunity in my career, that too is available at garrettsteele.com
